July 7th, 2014 Movie – Clawed: The Legend Of Sasquatch

clawed legend of sasquatchToday’s movie is Clawed: The Legend Of Sasquatch, one of several movies I own involving a cryptid. For those that don’t know, a cryptid is an animal whose existence has been suggested but never officially proven. Creatures like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, the Chupacabra and others are always great source material for a good sci-fi movie. And of course, I am right there to watch and buy these movies.

The Plot: A group of poachers are attacked in the woods of Echo Mountain, with three of them being killed. The lone survivor, thinks that Eagleheart. the Ranger that found him, was responsible for his friend’s deaths. In a bout of drunken reasoning, he gets a group together to go back into the woods for revenge. Meanwhile, a group of high school students are in the woods working on a biology project. When Eagleheart warns them to get out of the woods, they leave but end up running into the hunters, and something else.

I have always been fascinated with the legends of cryptids. It always amazed me that so many different cultures and areas of the world have legends involving similar creatures. From the Sasquatch in the American northwest to the Yeti in the Himalayas. From the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland to Mokele Mbembe in the African Congo. All of these legends are fascinating and Hollywood has no problem making movies from them. Some of them are cheesy, some are scary, some are even feel-good family style movies. But no matter what, if there is a legend about some strange creature floating around, you can bet that some movie will be made about it relatively soon.

Now as for this movie, while not the best Sasquatch movie around, this is still an ok movie to watch. It doesn’t try to add or take away anything from the Bigfoot mythos. The only thing I didn’t like is that they made it seem like more of a spirit rather than an actual creature, able to disappear from view without moving. The characters for the most part were stereotyped in their roles. The sheriff was stuck between trying to do his job and trying to play the politics game with the mayor. The mayor was more concerned with public image than public safety. The poachers were essentially drunken rednecks. Even the high school kids were stereotyped. One of the guys was the typical jock while the other was more of the bookworm that was forced to work together on their project.

So there are better Bigfoot movies that you can watch out there. But if this is on TV, I won’t necessarily rush to change the channel.

I don’t think I have ever watched a Bigfoot movie…so many movies that I haven’t seen. I think I’ll stick to books and just enjoy you telling us about these movies! 🙂
