August 27th, 2014 Movie – D.O.A.: Dead Or Alive

doa dead or aliveWait a sec. Is it possible? Could it actually have happened? Yes. We have actually made it to a new letter. We are now in the D’s. This is incredible. I feel like I should do something to celebrate this momentous occasion. But first, I should probably watch today’s movie. So, first I will watch D.O.A.:Dead Or Alive, then I will review it, and then think of something fun to do. Sound good to you?

The plot: A multitude of fighters are invited to an isolated island to take part in DOA, an invitational martial arts tournament with a $10 million dollar prize. But some of the fighters are there for reasons aside from the money. Kasumi is there seeking information about her brother Hayate, who disappeared after entering last years tournament. Tina is there seeking to prove she is a legitimate martial artist. Christie, and her somewhat backstabbing partner Max, are there for the money, even if they have to steal it. As the tournament progresses, fighters are compete and are eliminated until the only four left are Kasumi, Tina, Christie, and Hayabusa. But unbeknownst to them, the tournament serves another purpose, one which the island’s supervisor Victor Donovan seeks to control.

Ok. As you all know by reading this blog, I have quite a few movies and so I decided to share the wealth, so to speak. To do this, I decided to have a little contest to thank those of you that actually read my blog. So here it is. I have been watching a movie a day since the beginning of the year and here it is almost September and I have only made it to the D’s. So the contest is simple. Not counting the flashback reviews, when will I watch/review the last movie in my collection. Now obviously I will most likely still be buying movies while I am reviewing. Heck, I can think of 4 movies right now that I will be buying before the end of the year. Anyways, the rules are simple. Leave a comment below with your guess as to what date I will finish watching my collection. The comment must be on the blog, not on Facebook. Only one guess per person. The person with the closest guess will get a $50 Amazon gift card which they can use to increase their own movie collection. Or buy socks, or start some other weird collection. Now I will give you all a hint. It will be sometime in 2017.

Why is it that movies based on video games are almost always bad. Actually, I take that back. I think every movie based on a video game has been bad. Let’s see. Super Mario Brothers? Yup, it bombed. Street Fighter? Oh god, just shoot me. Mortal Kombat? Well…..the first one maybe but the second one definitely sucked. Now let’s take a look at this one. Uh oh. It stars Eric Roberts. Well, guess we all know how this one is going to turn out.

Now this movie was targeted for a specific demographic and I have to admit that I fall in that demographic. You would think it was targeting fans of the video game, and you would be wrong. This movie’s target audience was people that like action/fight scenes and T&A. One could make the argument that this could be considered a “girl power” movie, but no, it really isn’t. I have no problem admitting liking this movie because this movie really is one of those “so bad it’s good” movies. This is honestly one of those films where you can shut your brain off and just watch all the pretty colors flash across the screen and not miss anything.

But that is not funniest thing about this movie. My favorite part is that the people that wrote this movie actually researched the game. You see, Dead Or Alive is a fighting game and they had plenty of fighting in it. But there are also two other Dead Or Alive games, that focus solely on the women in the game. and the sole purpose of those games is to play volleyball and buy swimsuits. I’m not joking. That is the purpose of the game. So in the movie, there is a scene where 4 of the girls are playing volleyball in their bikinis. Like I said, someone did their research about the video games.

So if you want to switch your brain off and watch some mindless entertainment, this is worth a watch. But before you do that, you should probably leave a comment with your guess below.

I’m going to pick an easy date – March 26, 2017 – cause that’s my birthday! And I can’t beleive you signed up to do this every day for more than two years (not counting the flashbacks, of course)! You have much more literary determination than I do! I’m enjoying them though! 🙂
